I have gotten back into photography and now from a "business" sense. I started out with family and friends but evidently, word has gotten out. I have clients!! My friend Megan's dad, Chris McGargill, has been diagnosed with Myelofibrosis, which is a disease of the bone marrow. Essentially, due to scarring of the bone marrow his body is no longer producing the red blood cells that it needs to support his vital organs. In order to support his declining red blood cells, her dad is currently receiving blood transfusions every 6 – 7 days.

Give the gift of life this holiday season—donate blood. Your donation could save up to three people’s lives, including Chris McGargill. Please consider donating blood in his honor. The blood drive is Wednesday, December 29th from 6:30 am – 6:30 pm at Millard North High School. The entire process—from registration through snacks—only takes an hour of your time. Two of my girlfriends are co-chairs for Paint the Town Orange taking place November 12 at the Scott Conference Center. At this event, Liz Funk, author of “Supergirls Speak Out: Inside the Secret Crisis of Overachieving Girls,” will address this phenomenon growing in Omaha and around the country. The event will benefit YWCA Omaha and fund the organization’s mission of helping women and their families build lives of strength, growth and stability.
Dinner and Ms. Funk's program will be from 6:30-8 p.m. with a boutique before and after.

Well, I happen to be providing one of my newest "products" as a part of the boutique......Burp Cloths!! My little girl Alivia is a bit of a spitty baby and I received a burp cloth as a gift that is super absorbent and thought "hmmm I think I could make these" and away I went. Here are my burpies I am contributing to the event.

Just wanted to share our birth announcements and baptism invitations that I designed for our newest edition to our family Alivia Miyoko Ahern. I always have fun doing birth announcements but these were fun and stressful all at the same time. I am my own worse critic as well as my own worse client. It was all worth it though because I love the way they turned out!! The photo that we used was taken by Kelly Highby Photography. Kelly does a fantastic job and we are thrilled with our newborn pictures.

Catching up before I take time off........

So, it has been two months since my last post but I have been really busy with design work not to mention preparing for our little baby girl to arrive. I thought it would be good if I updated before I took some time off to spend with Alivia after she arrives. I will have one more post hopefully in the near future to showcase the wedding that I worked on in May and June.
Until then.....
This was for a friend's couple shower that is getting married Labor Day weekend.
My girlfriends Brother-in-Law is getting married this August and they were hosting a couples shower for the Bride and Groom.

As another part of that wedding preparation I designed rehearsal dinner invitations to work with their wedding invites for the Mother of the Groom.
This announcement was for a friend of my Sister-in-Law's. She is starting a new exciting chapter of her life and wanted to send an announcement with her new information.

Wendy is at it again. She is walking in the Breast Cancer 3-Day in Denver with a few friends. They are using Footloose and Cancer Free as their team name. Here is their logo.

This is what I have been working on finishing up so other than posting images of the Hruska/Plummer Wedding and maybe a couple small personal projects, I will be taking some time off from designing to get to know our little girl. She should be here any day......and yes when she is here I will post pictures to introduce Miss Alivia Miyoko Ahern!!

Spring brings Showers!!

I have been busy busy with the Hruska Plummer wedding that I will be sharing when I get some photographs of the finished product but until then I have some fun shower invitations to share.

The first is for some good friends that are due just a few short days before we are. I am so excited that our little girls will be friends and that we will be able to have play dates!! So these are for Denise and Mike.This second set is for my sister-in-laws, sister-in-law. I was really excited about theses because she wanted her invites to be of a bride silhouette. I have done many baby belly silhouettes but not a bride. I am very excited about how these turned out.

This last one is in fact another one of my belly silhouettes. Jen wanted a girl version of a previous invite that I had done for my friend Sarah. I don't like to use the same invite more than once so I changed it up a little.

The last is a little funny to post about because........well it was an invitation for me. My sister and my mom's good friend threw a wonderful shower for me back in my home town of Sidney NE. I had to laugh when thinking about doing these but then I separated my two babies.....Alivia and my business. So here is my invite!!

My nephew Ethan turned 1 today!! I can't believe that it has been an entire year. I can remember the day he was born as if it were yesterday. It was such an awesome experience to be able to be a part of his birth. Anyway - I designed the invitations for his birthday party that we had on Valentine's Day.

It was such a fun time!! My friend Wendy has a cake business called Sweetie P's so we asked her to make a cake to go with the John Deere theme. It was awesome. Thanks Wendy!!

Here is an invite that I created for a baby shower for a friend. She came to me with some photos of the bedding that the parents had picked from Pottery Barn Kids. They were planning on purchasing the bedding as group gift from the invited guests so we only thought it would be fitting to model the invite after the bedding.

So this is what I came up with. I am really excited about the final product!!

So again it has been quite a while since I have posted but I need to deliver the finished products before posting them. I am very excited about these designs. I said before that I was busy with Holiday cards and baby announcements. I delivered the last design tonight so I can finally catch up.

Here are the Holiday cards that I did for my friend Michelle, my mom and sister.

These are the two baby announcements that I just finished. The designs have been done for a while but the babies had to be born before I could finlize them. I am very excited about having the opportunity to help announce these two baby boys.

This design was for my friend Lindsay. We go back a long way. Our moms went to college together so we always saw pictures of each other in Christmas cards. Then by chance we became sorority sisters in Kappa Alpha Theta when we attended college. This is the announcement for her first born Brody. She came to me with an idea that she liked and we went from there.

The second design was for my best friend Sarah announcing their first born Will. We decided that we would do a announcement/Christmas card combo. I was very excited to play with a few ideas that I had had. I gave her a couple of options and this is the one she selected. I am really pleased with the turnout.

It has been a little over a month since my last post. I haven't fallen off the face of the earth and I can't say that I haven't been designing. I just can't post all of what I have been doing lately because they are not fully finished. I have been busy with birth announcements and holiday cards. Two of the birth announcements that I have been working on were/are being designed before the baby arrives so that we could just insert a picture and the birth information and hit print. A couple of the holiday cards I am working on are finished but not delivered yet so I am holding out posting those until they are out of my hands.

So for now I have one of each to share.

This is Grant Thomas Moore. This little boy is the son of a good friend of my husbands. I was really excited to work with them but even more excited about his name. Grant is my brother-in-law's name and Thomas is my husbands name so we joke that the newest addition to the Moore family is named after our family.

This design was for a good friend that was so excited about my collection that we worked up a few proofs to help decide which design she liked best and which design complimented their picture. I think this was a great choice. I love the way the design works with the colors in their photo. Enjoy and check back soon. I have some fun designs to show!!

This is a design that is part of my Belly Sillouette Collection. I have about 4 different designs using this sillouette. This one works for baby boys and girls.

This is for a shower that is taking place at a Sushi Restaurant in Downtown Omaha. They were designed to go with the shower's Asian theme.

Lucy is turning 2 at the end of October. She is having an Elmo themed party. These were really fun!!

Here are a couple of new designs that I did for some co-workers (at my real job). The first is a bridal invitation I did for a friend and co-worker that is getting married September 20th. I hosted a shower along with two other ladies for her at work.

The second design was for another friend and co-worker. Her sister gave birth to a little boy on September 11th. Amy thought it would be fun to give her sister announcments as a gift. This is what we came up with for the Greer family.

This has been a fairly busy summer for wedding programs. I have now designed three in the last month and a half. A friend of the McIntyre's saw their programs and contacted me about designing for them. This was super fun because I had just finished some new graphics that I thought were perfect for their programs. This is the monogram that we used. I will post pictures of the finished product soon.
I designed the third set of programs for my friend Meagan. I am so excited for her and can't wait to see her walk down the eisle. Tom and I will be making the trip out to Denver for their wedding August 16th. Here are the different monogram options I gave them. Stay tuned for the finished product to see which one they picked.

I really try to keep my posts to my designs but I have to share the mini-vacation that we went on over the 4th of July. My Aunt and Uncle have a cabin in Long Pine NE aka "Hidden Paradise". It truly is amazing there especially because it is not what you typically think of Nebraska. You should hear the comments my Aunt and Uncle get when they say they are vacationing in Nebraska when they live in California.

I have two new birthday invitations to share. The first is for a high school friend's little boy Breckan. He turns one on August 11th. Nicki is really good about updating Breckan's website so I have watched him grow via the internet. I am hoping to meet him at my 10 year reunion in July.

The second is for my friend Megan's daughter McKenna. I did McKenna's first birthday invitations and for the longest time they were one of my favorites. I think these are one of my new favorites. They were really fun to create. I had some new flowers that I hadn't been able to use yet so this invite was perfect for them. The final product really came together with the flower embellishment that I added to each of them. Below are a couple of photos that show the variation.

Prayers to St. Anthony

I said many a prayers to St. Anthony, actually I even sent myself an email with this prayer........

"St. Anthony, when you prayed, your stolen book of prayers was given back to you. Pray now for all of us who have lost things precious and dear. Pray for all who have lost faith, hope or the friendship of God. Pray for us who have lost friends or relatives by death. Pray for all who have lost peace of mind or spirit. Pray that we may be given new hope, new faith, new love. Pray that lost things, needful and helpful to us, may be returned to our keeping. Or, if we must continue in our loss, pray that we may be given Christ’s comfort and peace. Amen."

For those of you who have read my previous posts you will know that I had accepted the fact that I had lost my flash drive. Well, between prayers and acceptance, it has returned. It was at home this entire time........in the washing machine. Luckily, it still works and I was able to retrieve everything I thought I had lost!! YEAH!!

New Camera

For about the last two years I have been saying that I wanted a new camera but wasn't sure what type I wanted to get. On one hand I just wanted a newer compact digital to put in my purse to have at any given picture moment. On the other hand I really love photography enough I could make it another hobby (as if I need another) so a camera with changeable lenses was my other option. I decided to start bidding on eBay. I tend to only do this when I am wanting to make a purchase but not ready to commit to the price. This way I can bid what I am willing to pay but I am not being suckered into more. After bidding on both types of cameras, I finally won the bid for a Sony Cybershot. I am really happy with it. Other than the fact that it doesn't have the ability to change out lenses it takes really good photos. Here are a few I took of our landscape. This is also an excuse to brag about Tom and the beautiful landscape he designed for our house and continues to add to each summer. So if anyone is looking to improve their yards......I might know a landscape designer that can help out. I do have to take credit for our potted plants. That is the one part I get to have a hand in. Enjoy.................

Sand in the City

Every year the Nebraska Children's Home Society Foundation has Sand in the City. This is a sand sculpting contest to raise awareness of Nebraska Children’s Home’s programs, which include adoption services and education, unplanned pregnancy services, medically fragile foster care and child care, while raising funds to support our efforts. Corporate teams work with professional sand sculptors from throughout the nation and local architects to build incredible sand sculptures, using more than 350 tons of sand! This year I agreed to volunteer as one of the local architects. It was an amazing experience that I am hoping to participate in again in the years to come. And the cherry on top was that I was supporting a cause that had just blessed a good friend with twin baby girls. I was paired with the PayPal Merchant team. They were awesome to work with. Our team was "Seuss in the City" and our sculpture was "Dr. Seuss Storytime". Here are a few images of our team, our sculpture, and the sculpture by the Master Sculptors.

So I lost my flash drive the last week in May and I still have not found it. I used it to store all my recent designs and my DBS artwork. Although I have been able to recover .jpeg's or .pdf's from emails or the random times I saved on my hard drive at work, I am still missing a lot of my work. I was really bummed about this but I guess I am going to have to see it as a chance to create some new designs. So look for new stuff!!

The Unconformist have been asked to perform with 7 other bands at Sokol on May 24th. We are extremely nervous and excited at the same time. This is a step out of our comfort zone but we figure we have to do it at some time or another. Here are the details:

The new man in my life

Ethan Jay Sieck..........my nephew. My sister Beth gave birth to Ethan in February. I didn't think I would fall in love with another man but he stole my heart.

This is the invite for the shower that I hosted along with Randy's sister Jessica.

I was so excited to do Ethan's birth announcements but I was even more excited when Beth got her proofs back from his first photo session. A good friend of the family Carly has a photography business in Lincoln which worked out perfectly for Beth. Carly was gracious enough to let me use one of the pictures for the announcement. Beth didn't get a chance to get back to Sidney for a baby shower before Ethan was born. Something about sitting in the car for 5 hours pregnant didn't seem too appealing. Plus she thought that if she waited until after he was born she could show him off to our friends and family that we don't get to see all that often.

Through being a part of the music community at my church, I was solicited to do some design work for an alternative Christian rock group that was forming. Through conversations with Dan he knew that I did design work on the side. He asked if I would be interested in helping with the band's image. Some how I managed to go from being a designer to being a designer/singer. I started singing backup a few weeks after I started designing for them. I never thought I would be in a band but it is so fun. I love it. We live by Romans 12:2.... "Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. One of my design services that I have been doing is logo design. This has been a really fun and rewarding part of my business.

This was a logo that I did for Shannon, Wendy, Michelle, and Lizzie. They did the 3-day in Chicago. Get it...Boobie Dolls (Barbie Dolls).

I did this for Diana and her 3-day team. I am really excited because they just informed me that one of the local hospitals wants to trademark their logo for them. They are also helping them with their costs to walk at their next 3-day event.

Through another client I was approached about doing a logo for the benefits department at Nebraska Furniture Mart. I think they were pleased with what I did because I was asked to do another logo for their Human Resources department as well. Here it is.

My mom turned 60 this year and made a comment that came back to bite her. She has some really wonderful friends that she made sure to celebrate their birthdays with over the years. Some of these celebrations were a little bigger than others but never the less she did something big or little to wish them Happy Birthday. I said that she had better watch because they would get her back. She said "I am sure that they will get a card or something little or maybe take me out to dinner but nothing too big". I decided that we needed to celebrate her 60th big so Beth and I planned a Surprise party for her. We, along with around 60 of her friends and family got her good.
This is my niece Ayla.....she is 17 months now but better late than never.

Lindsey was throwing her friend Kiera a Lingerie Shower and bachelorette party. She was one of my first and is now one of my best clients.
It has been the year of 50th's. Along with Wendy's parents turning 50 so did Nicole's parents and Shannon's mother-in-law. Here are their invites.

Card Boxes

I was asked to donate to the Wine til Nine charity event that happened this fall. I came up with the idea of Card Boxes. I thought I would design cards for different occasions and then design a box to hold them. I am really excited about the final product although these images don't give the whole design. There were three dimesional items (ie. ribbon, eyelets, layers) that added to the design. I also didn't get pictures of the boxes. I will be doing a few more boxes for Mother's Day orders so I will photograph them and post later. Here they are.........

I have been meaning to do this for a while now but it has been on the bottom of my never ending lists of things to do. I have been thinking about it for a while now but I am in the process of looking at a business plan to take Designed by Sabrina to a full time business rather than the part-time business it is today. This will more than likely be a few years from now but I am starting the wheels of motion. I have revamped my logo, I am in the process of revamping my website and I am starting to blog my most recent designs. Although these are not all of my designs or even all of my most recent designs, it is a start. So.....Enjoy!!

I love surprise parties and I love old photos. This is an invite that captured both. Ron and Mary celebrated their 50th birthdays and the 30th wedding anniversary. Wendy and Trevor Fitch and Kalin Hicks planned a surprise party for them.

This was a baby shower announcement for our friends Annie and Sam Neal. Their baby girl is due April 6th.

Every year my mom gives her fellow teachers little gifts for Christmas. For the last two years I have designed "from the desk of" note cards for her gifts. This is this years design.

Shannon's little brother Brian is getting married to a really awesome girl Sarah. Shannon and Josh are throwing a shower. They decided that they wanted it to be a sports theme so what would be more perfect for an invite than a ticket.
